Automated Insect Production
Near-free feed for animals, produced in a closed system.
Mealworms and black soldier fly larvae, produced in what is essentially a modular CNC bin management system with extra parts. Feed goes in at a central point; feeding, checkups, harvesting and packaging are automatic. Staying closed keeps pathogen exposure down for maximum biosecurity.
They're almost a free feed source for chickens, cows, ducks, geese, fish, lizards and the rest. Mealworms suit stable long-term systems with good access to grain and dry feed and take about three months to mature; BSFL handle moist feed sources and finish a life cycle in under three weeks, but need more attention and more feed. Both matter to completing the farm ecosystem.
